James Howard Kunstler
The Party That Wrecked America
It's official now: John McCain and Sarah Palin are up in the latest polls now that the conventions are over. I view this as a positive development. It will give the Obama-Biden campaign incentive to get serious. It would have been a disaster for Obama-Biden to come out of this past week ahead. It might have prompted them to kick back and be complacent.
McCain-Palin have nowhere to go now but down, and I will tell you exactly how this will happen. They can run away from President Bush, but they can't run away from the Republican Party. The Republicans will be regarded from now on as "the party that wrecked America." Over the weeks ahead, as carnage in the economy and the financial markets ramps up, it will become increasingly clear. It is important that this meme be spread through the internet. I urge all commentators who read this blog to adopt and spread the idea that the Republicans are "the party that wrecked America." It will work because it is the truth. Use it freely. Don't bother attributing it to me. Just spread the word. Get the meme going.
I sure hope that Obama thinks he's behind for that is always a great motivator.

To be fair, the destruction that Kunstler talked about has been happening for awhile under GOP and Democrats.
Still, certain parties who visit your site might find his POV instructive.
I have always felt that focusing on blame has limited benefits and in the long run is counterproductive. Unfortunately, America has been programmed in life and politics to rely on it as a tool to get elected or just to get by.
What I want is change. Simple as that. I don't know if Obama will really change things, but I do know that just putting him in office projects change of tremendous proportions. McCain being elected seems to offer nothing more than more of the same. Dressing him up by hanging an ex beauty queen on his ticket is not change. It's just washing the pig before the fair.
I hate to say it, and maybe this is just because I am presently being bludgeoned by late season pollen, but I am nearly exhausted with the effort of explaining just this thing to people. I am at the "fuckit. die dumb if you want, it's your right" stage. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him smart. If people have access to the facts, and they still vote for the repugs in November, it is because they prefer to believe the bullshit. And there is not much you or I can do about that.
I'll do my part.
Its consistant on the part of the Democrats to describe our country as a wreck and only They can save it---to tell people we feel your pain, its not YOUR fault, elect us and we will help you---and another generation of people sit back, hand over more of their monies and wait for the government to feed them and make them feel good. I don't think the work ethic of our forefathers is quite that dead yet, and once again the socialistic liberal left will be defeated. Ask yourself do you want to live for a government handout or do ya want the freedom to make your own way in life.---more government(Liberal democratic promises)or less government controls (Republican promises)---Nov. 4th will make it clear which way the majority wants things to go.
or less government controls (Republican promises)
bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha - you have to be kidding.
while the dems have plenty to be ashamed of and have their fare share of garbage - NOTHING compares to the trashing the economy has taken under the "small government" GOP or the shredding of the constitution.
how much has the debt increased under Bush? 2 gazillion dollars.
A war paid on the mastercard, debt up the kazoo -- but cut taxes - because we will make it up in volume -- it is a friggin I Love Lucy epsiode.
Both parties are guilty of fraud and deceipt. Only the republicans are just so snide, sneaky, devious and fascist about it.
Not to mention that the GOP is the party that wants to tell us what we can do in our bedrooms, who we can marry, what we can do with our bodies, what books we can read, and where we can travel to (or not) within our own borders (see "Real ID"). Sounds a lot like they want government intrusion in peoples' private lives.
The GOP became the party of bureaucracy when they created the DHS. Never has a bigger governmental department been created. And solely for the purpose of protecting us from terrorism? What about Total Information Awareness? I think THAT abomination was a part of it... Heh... Big Brother is not solely a Republican thing, but the social conservatives sure lean toward Christian reconstructivist concepts.
The GOP has become the party of unlimited big spending during the last eight years. Much of that money has been spent on a war in Iraq that arguably should never have been waged. How much has the DHS cost? Who knows. Oh well, by waging two wars at the same time they cut taxes, maybe they can starve social programs out of existence and replace FDR on the dime with Ronald Reagan.
The GOP has become the party of dumbing down America. I haven't seen any Democratic attempts to hire "scientists" to provide "research" that supports what oil companies want, or any Democratic administrations that have tried to suppress science like the Bush bunch did with NASA for example. They are definitely pro-religion and anti-science.
The GOP is definitely the party of fundamentalist religion. That was demonstrated by the ascendancy of Tom DeLay in Congress and in the Terri Schiavo ordeal, as well as by the way the GOP can't win elections unless they get the evangelical vote, for which they will basically do and say anything.
The
Whew! I got so windy there that my breath failed me momentarily! 8-)>
The Republicans like to reserve their government handouts for the rich.
All those damn poor people that can't afford to retire and stuff should have planned ahead so they would be rich. Losers.
