But it wasn't all born of commercial intent. Every time there's a really big storm, big power outages, big disruption of travel and even emergency services, people get hurt and some die. Americans are busy, preoccupied and some are just as dense as granite. So, newspapers and broadcasters have learned you almost can't overdo warning people about big, potentially dangerous weather events. It probably is better to overdo on the side of hype. You'd probably be amazed how many people were still taken by surprise. S.W.
