Hell no you can't!

Today was primary day here and as republicans have asked for my vote I can say with great glee "No"!
No you can't have my vote because you've conditioned me to say "No". I say no to tax breaks for the rich. I say no to corporate loopholes that make CEO wealthier while the rest of us suffer. I say no to slashing budgets that cause layoffs of our teachers fire and police. I say no to banks that won't refinance mortgages while we bailed them out. I say no to republicans who made health care an issue of killing grandma when they knew that was a lie. I say no to torture. I say no to illegal wire taps. I say no to treating us all like criminals when we board a plane. I say no to stereotyping races and religions for some sick political gain. I say no to not passing a jobs bill and getting the economy going again. So it's no to teabaggers and their fake outrage when most of the time they don't even understand the issue. I say no to republicans who parrot the BS of Fox News which isn't a news organization and shouldn't be part of the white house press corps. I say no to the idiots who think that it was Obama who got us into this mess. And I say no to the idiots who keep blocking everything he's tried to do. Got any better ideas other than tax cuts for the uber wealthy then let's hear it or just shut the hell up and get out of the way.

The friday independence beaver

I picked this beaver because he looks like he's playing a fife in keeping with the holiday. And on that note I came upon a blog post that's sure star spangled banner writing but just not in the way you'd expect. A welcome back to D-cup who's seemed to have stepped back up on her political soap box and throw her two cents into the discussion of the teabag crowd.

A cherry bomb for your barbecue

And that got me to thinking. Exactly where did our country go? I remember as a kid seeing my dad every night coming through the door at six. No weird shifts or changes in his work schedule and there was always time for a two week vacation. Sometimes we'd stay home but most times it was to the beach or mountains with a history lesson thrown in. We always had health care thanks to the company so the stitches were no problem.
It wasn't until recently that it dawned on me what had happened. During the 1940s the world had bombed the crap out of itself and there was not much left. The U.S.being left unscathed was the go to guy for all the goods and life we all enjoyed as kids. We made all the TVs radios and cars for the world. And with TVs you could see all those goods that you could get. Soon needs turned into wants and you were nobody unless you had the latest (fill in the blank). Something happened somewhere along the way. Sometime in the last 20 or 30 years things slowly started to give out. We watched as our steel mills were boxed up and shipped to Korea. The lie was that this was old technology and that they'd be building a new less polluting plant. But that never happened. What did happen was nearly all the mills closed left to rot while companies set up shop in Asia and South America and anywhere else they could find cheap labor. Slowly the rest of manufacturing followed with clothing, cars and lately appliances moving overseas. Then there was the in sourcing. Foreign car companies moved here to the cheap labor southern states paying far less than northern counterparts and taking the profits out of the country. Local governments gave these companies sweetheart tax breaks to get the business doing little for the support of services. Building a school ball field or two doesn't make up for what was lost.

So Happy Birthday America or at least what's left of it.

Update: Surprise surprise there were no bank failures this week unless the reporting agency took off early for the 4th.

Why do republicans want to kill grandma and the unemployed?

Unable to deliver more stimulus spending for President Barack Obama, Democrats in Congress had hoped to at least restore the jobless benefits. Obama has urged lawmakers to spend about $50 billion to help states pay for Medicaid programs and to avoid teacher layoffs, but Democrats in Congress have been unable to come up with the votes.

And why weren't they able to get the votes? Because every last republican voted against every bill that would have funded Medicaid and extended jobless benefits. A similar fight happened back in the 1930s but I guess back then people had a bit more empathy. Back then the wealthy were willing to kick in to help the country recover agreeing to tax hikes that got the country back on track. But back then I guess you could pay your doctor bill with a couple of chickens. Not so today where the costs keep going up. Remember there was the rush to jack up prices before any health care reform came into play and even after that bill passed the bean counters were able to squeeze in yet more increases.

At present there are 6 people for every job being offered and contrary to what they would have you believe many of the jobs are technical requiring either a degree or several years experience in a field. The McDonald's jobs went a long time ago, about a year and a half ago if memory serves correct. But if you ask a republican you'd think there was plenty of fry clerk jobs. Hell even all the fast food places are lowering their prices to get business.

Republicans seem to think that a person can go out and get a minimum wage job when people have a mortgage and car payment. Or maybe we could just move back in with our parents who died twenty or thirty years ago. Maybe that's their plan, to allow us to take up residence next to mom and dad at the family plot. Change the rules on cemeteries and let them stack the outcome of the Bush depression. Cremation is cheaper but I don't think we could afford the gas.

If they had their way republicans would eliminate Medicare and Medicaid, scrap Social Security and as we can see by them we're just unemployed lazy dogs. I'd love for them to be run out of office and have to get a "real" job and no going to their lobbying buddies for help. I'd love to see the look on the faces when they typed into the job search and those wonderful words spring up on their screen "sorry no jobs found".

Their plan? Lower taxes yet again for those at the top and privatize everything else thereby moving all that money to the top. Can't have a service of any kind without some executive making a multi seven figure salary now can we?

So just wrap me in a lawn sized Hefty bag and cart me out to the curb. When is pickup day?

From fellow blogger Blog Fodder

Someone took exception to my use of “Christian Republican” as a derogatory term. Actually derogatory doesn’t even begin to cover how I feel about it. (Canadians can play along by substituting appropriate political party names).

Republicans claim to have a lock on Christianity. The only thing they have a lock on is hypocrisy.

They preach morals and family values but their personal track record says otherwise. They preach fiscal responsibility but spend tax money like there is no tomorrow. If you look at the record, the Republicans have gotten the USA into financial messes which the Democrats then have to sort out. Raegan-Clinton and now Bush-Obama are just the most recent. They don’t tax and spend, they just spend. They preach free enterprise but are firmly attached to the government teat for favourable legislation, big contracts and cash handouts. They preach against big government but expand it exponentially.

They are anti-poor, anti-sick, anti-“Coloured”, anti-women, anti-minority of any kind, anti-science, anti-education, anti-intellectual, anti-environmental stewardship. They are pro-violence, pro-guns, pro-war, pro-accumulation of wealth by fair means or foul, the latter being their only measure of personal value. They believe the wealth of a nation should not benefit the people of the nation, only a select few. Their social safety network can best be summed up as “I’m OK; f**k you!”

This may an acceptable political ideology and it certainly has its adherents but it is not Christian. It is the antithesis of everything Christianity stands for. They love to call the Democrats godless atheists, though Dems do a far better job of living true Christianity and I suspect they have as many or more actual Christians voting for them.

So if you want to call yourself a Christian Republican, that is your choice. But please don’t talk to me about your kind of “Christianity”. It sickens me.

Hat tip to Blog Fodder for leting me steal (borrow) this.

Republican Nazis

For anyone who thinks Ahhrnold is a compassionate conservative think again. With Calefornia facing massive budget shortfalls the governators fix is to throw 930,000 low income children off medical assistance. Don't you just love republican thinking? Your safe if you're still in the womb but once you're out it's so long Charlie, you're on your own.
He's also talking about borrowing money from cities. Like they're not broke as well. All because some republican years back decided to slash taxes. Even Reagan wasn't that dumb when he was governor. Ronnie raised taxes then got the hairbrained idea to cut taxes. We'll shrink government to a size you could drownd in a bathtub. It only worked back then because there were programs to cut. When Dumbyu got in he lowered taxes on the wealthy cut what was left of the safety nets that Ronnie hadn't trashed and spent like a drunkin sailor of two wars.
And even to this day that is their only solution. We'll cut taxes we'll cut taxes is their credo. What will be left? We'll cut taxes on the plywood and nails you'll be buying to board up your business.

Sometimes the news gets too depressing

Hard to write latley with all the bad news. I keep seeing the evidence of our wonderful Bush depression with a weekly trip to the store passing all the closed shops along the way. I see more carpet and furniture stores with boarded up windows on this last weekend trip. Stores that had been there for over twenty years gone.

Afghanistan and Pakistan - I see undersupplied troops with no real mission unless just staying alive long enough to make it through a duty tour and hoping you don't get extended can be called a mission. I think Bin Ladin will die of old age before we catch him and the rest of the team will be well hidden in the mountains. To think we could bring democracy to that country was very wishful thinking.

Iraq - Soldier shoots several of his fellow soldiers. Gee and they thought people doing two tours of duty in Vietnam were nuts. This guy did three. Everyone has their breaking point. And now we're starting to see the return of suicide bombers. Let's see with 25+% unemployment it should be easy to get followers. You think we should just leave and let them rebuild the country rather than killing us or themselves?

GM and Chrystler set to close dealerships - That would throw over 150,000 out of work. That's a good way to eliminate pesky paperwork just get rid of all your customers.

Bank robberies - Saw more robberies in the last week than I care to remember. Now the robbers are bringing their kids along. What is this? Bring your kid to work month? Give little Billy some paper and pen and he can make out the note in the car before Daddy pops in for a quick withdrawl. Sorry Mr. Robber the bank doesn't have any money. They lost it in subprime mortgages and hedge funds. The money they got from taxpayers went to executive bonuses and junkets.

Healthcare - There's now 60 million without it and climbing. By the time they decide on how to fix the problem it will be much worse. With all the layoffs you know they'll have to cut medicare and medicade along with social security.

Schools - They've closed a bunch of schools to try and save money. Now they're laying off teachers. Why not just rent out Safeco field and hold classes there.

I could go on and on but I won't. Need to post this before a scheduled outage at 2:00 AM

Bush blames Dems for high cost of gas

Ha! Leme see. Who's held the reigns of power in this country for the last 7 1/2 years? Who had the majority in congress? Who said they were going to do something about the high cost of gas when it was $2 a gallon? Who didn't even know that gas was $4 a gallon until a reporter told him? Who's daddy put out two executive orders to prevent drilling in these wild life areas?
There's 68 MILLION acres that can be drilled and the excuse is that it will take years to develop those areas. Well what makes you think any new areas could be developed any sooner?
I have an idea. Let's tax the crap out of the oil companys and use that money to subsidize gas in this country until we can develop renewabe energy. I'd love to see oil execs making less than janitors and have to get to work on $5 a gallon gas.

Read more of this deluded moron's thinking if you dare.

Rant

Hypocrit
Cheney has a lot of nerve lambasting China for testing a missle for their defense system. Lets look at the facts. Who is the only country in the world ever to use nuclear weapons? Who is the only country to establish a preemtive offensive defense? Who is the administration that is about to reverse an action that took place over forty years ago by putting missles in Europe?
Who is the country abusing human rights and civil liberties even though they swore an oath to a constitution that prevents this? The arrogance with which this administration operates amazes me. To assume that a country that's developing as fast as China would not be establishing systems for it's own defense is absurd.
Arrogant
Cheney criticizes Pelosi for not realizing the consequenses of her actions. He should stop to consider the consequenses of his actions when he outed a CIA agent. We'll see how that one plays out after the Libby trial. And now we have THE BIG PLAN for Iraq. I won't go into it here so go over to Blah3 and check out the insanity.
