The usual Friday beaver

In keeping with the friday beaver theme it occurred to me that the reason so many on the right are angry and ranting wild machinations is that they are sexually frustrated. It all makes perfect sense if you look at it closely. No sex outside of marriage,no sex before marriage, no self sex, and just how many head aches can a women have? They might as well live in a monastery except that we know that behind closed doors it's another story. With a nice expense account or corporate buddies with jets what's to stop a fellow from a jaunt to South America? Too far to go you say? How's about a nice intern or sexy campaign worker will do in a fix. Oh but why stop there when there are far more kinky things to delve into? A night out at a lesbian bondage club with the boys won't hurt anybody but don't forget to finish your speech on family values for the Rotary Club breakfast tomorrow.

So for all the flustered uptight boys from the "No Party" this wet beaver is for you. You just keep your hands where we can see em.

Must be Friday and time for the Beav but first...

Our wonderful government says that most of the oil in the Gulf is gone. That somehow a magical oil fairy came down when we were all sleeping waved her wand and "poof" everything is back to normal and we can all live happily ever after.


And now for the reality of the situation from a couple of scientists who've been studying spills for a couple of years:

Independent scientists scoffed at the report's findings. Several pointed out that the report estimates that a quarter of the oil is still floating in the gulf or contaminating beaches and marshes, while another quarter was dispersed, either with chemicals or naturally.


In other words, half of it, or about 2.5 million barrels, is still unrecovered.

"I don't think that's real good news," said James "Rip" Kirby, a University of South Florida coastal geologist who has been studying the spill's effects on Panhandle beaches. "That to me is like saying, 'Yee-haw, the Chicago Cubs are only 10 games out of first place!' "

Rick Steiner, a retired University of Alaska professor who worked on the Exxon Valdez disaster, questioned the validity of the estimates in the report, explaining, "These are just what we call WAGs — wild- a-- guesses."

Even if the report's numbers were dead-on, Steiner said, that would not mean the oil spill disaster is over, as some pundits are claiming. The impact is likely to linger for a decade or more.

For instance, in the Exxon Valdez spill, four years passed before the herring population in Prince William Sound collapsed. The toxic contamination had apparently hurt the herrings' immune system.


Personnaly I'd like to see some more of the university's findings. They had sent their research boat out to take samples back in June. Wonder if they did any follow up?

Busy digging up yet more environmentally damaging actions from our boys in the energy industry. Just today 2 more people died in the pursuit of cheap energy. More details later along with the latest bank failures.

Update: A three-man crew, employed by a maintenance contractor, were working on oil tanks at the well in Indiana Township when the blast happened at 9:50 a.m., rocketing one of the tanks more than 70 yards into the woods, said Allegheny County Emergency Director Robert Full. Two of the workers were killed.
Last week 20 workers were injured 4 in critical condition with serious burns when a section of a coke plant exploded near Pittsburgh. Workers said that workers were trying to stop a leaking gas line when something ignited the gas.
This is all about process safety and cutting corners. Any type of hot work on a tank must be done with the tank inerted (filled with co2 or nitrogen). Any gas lines need to be shut down before repairs. But no they never listen to reason, skip the safety and get her done only they are the ones who get done.

Failed banks: There were seven banks this week that bit the dust from FL to Ore.

Friday beaver drags her tail into saturday

Busy tearing the bathroom sink apart. First it started to leak somewhere then got plugged. Pulled the p trap and snaked out a hairball big enough to kill a cat. Had another replacement sink only to discover that some dumbass worker in china had put an oval sink in the box marked round. Oh well, I sealed any place the leaks could occur and will put the whole thing back together today. But of all the jobs around the house I hate plumbing the most. Seems every time I get something back together it leaks or a part is always the wrong size.

Bank failures: Four more took a dive - two in Md. 1 in NY and 1 in OK. I suspect you'll see more in the coming months as the Alt-A loans come due. Those were the adjustable rate mortgages who's rates jump after so many years. They're all scheduled to come due in the fall.

Got tied up reading the Oil Drum and almost forgot our furry friend. On the oil front their predicting a storm in the Gulf and if it doesn't veer off westward over Mexico then insult will be meeting injury. Expected time of arrival would be by Wed. of next week. They need at least four days to evacuate the well area. All reports indicate that if it is a small storm that may be a good thing and disperse the oil. I'd like to point out though that most of the oil is below the surface something that hasn't been considered. We'll see.

Looks like Wayward Hayward will get his life back and I can only hope that his new duties include changing toner in the corporate copy machines and cleaning executive washroom toilets because he sure doesn't know how to clean up the mess that he created. If he gets good at that maybe they'll let him move up to cleaning the lunchroom.

A retirement plan from Washington - joke

Due to the current financial situation caused by the slowdown in the economy, Congress has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 50 years of age and above on early retirement, thus creating jobs and reducing unemployment.

This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).

Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to Congress to be considered for the SHAFT program (Special Help After Forced Termination).

Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW program (System Covering Retired-Early Workers).

A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as Congress deems appropriate.

Persons who have been RAPED could get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependants & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance).

Obviously persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED or SCREWED any further by Congress.

Persons who are not RAPED and are staying on will receive as much SHIT (Special High Intensity Training) as possible. Congress has always prided themselves on the amount of SHIT they give our citizens.

Should you feel that you do not receive enough SHIT, please bring this to the attention of your Congressman, who has been trained to give you all the SHIT you can handle.

Beaver Friday

It boggles the mind what's going on in the background with the oil companies and the government agencies that regulate them. This is what isn't being reported in the MSM. Take for example how these companies are set up just to avoid taxes and regulations. Transocean for example states that their headquarters are in Zug, Switzerland yet they only have 13 employees there while the other 1300 are in Huston, Texas. The oil rig itself is registered in the Marshall Islands and therefore supposed to be covered by their laws and regs but of course their oversight is slim to none. The rig was inspected by no one. Haliburton has its' headquarters in Dubai while BP operates out of the Cayman Islands. And here's the part that even MSNBC didn't report. Not one of these companies pays a nickel in taxes. How's that? Here's the way it works. With their headquarters in a foreign country the company reports that they pay taxes to the U.S. When reporting to the U.S. they simply say that they pay taxes to the foreign country. Nobody seems to want to check this and since they don't then it's easy to slide this under the radar.

Then there's the Department of the Interior that has been in bed literally with the oil companies they're supposed to be overseeing. Remember these are still the cronies from the Bush administration.

And now for the real kicker as if this wasn't bad enough. Several new permits were just issued last week for (wait for it) deepwater offshore drilling.

A quick update on that Upper Branch mine where 29 miners were killed. Looks like a criminal investigation has been ordered. Sadly it will only be some low level workers who will see the inside of a jail cell and not the mine owner who should have been there a long time ago. I only wish we could have a little Chinese justice here. When one of their greedy guys screws up and gets caught he looses his head literally.

Beaver Friday just in time

Back and what would Friday be without that fuzzy animal and with an offspring because, you know, Sunday and all.

The class went okay. Passed and have yet another card to add to the deck. Krieky, pretty soon I'll be able to play pinochle.

As for the oil spill I'm sure there enough out of work folk down there to deal with the clean up. It really doesn't take much training to do that type of spill. When Katrina hit and there was the mess to clean up contractors were brought in who hired Mexicans (don't know whether they were legal or not) to do the work. A couple of our guys went down there and did about two weeks work for one of the oil companies but their pay scale down there just barely covers expenses. I've already tried doing the out of town work but with expenses at home it's not worth it.

Heard about the time square bomber. Is it my imagination or are they making dumber criminals? The guy left a paper trail a mile long, spaced it out and locked his keys in the SUV and bought fireworks in a store with cameras. Maybe he needed a remedial Al Qaeda course.

And now on to the bank failures for the week. We have four more in Ca.,Mn.,Fl., and Az.

Random angry rants today. Let's all get mean and nasty. What better things do we have to do?

Crist backs off the education bill in Fla. Gee maybe he thought the people down there were too dumb to email. Setting standards for teacher pay based on performance. Hey Sparky! Didn't you know when you push standards they just inflate the grades? And just how did Johnny make it through and get a high school diploma when he can't read or write? Explain that one to me Principal Skinner.

Unemployment extention just passed last night. And the growling republicans outraged that this isn't paid for. Tell me Senator (R) where was your outrage when you spent $400 billion+ for an unessary unpaid for war? Where was your no vote on the unpaid for drug bill with the donut hole? Great idea that was, we'll keep em alive just long enough so the rest of the insurance vultures can drain their bank accounts and should they survive we'll keep em alive just long enough to get the last penny then give em a cheap funeral.
You could give your buds on Wall Street hundreds of billions without batting an eyelid (it only took two weeks) but try and get 2% of what you gave them and it's taken months. Did you suddenly grow a conscience senator? Where was it the last eight years under Bush?

Now we have Bitch McConnell who seems to need another set of lips because you can only talk out of so many sides of your mouth at once. He's somebody's bitch alright only it isn't the people from his home state of Kuntucky. We need more regulations on the banks and investment houses is the cry of the day! So once again a watered down bill is finally eeked out essentually doing little to change the system. But is Bitch even satisfied with that? Nooo. Because even that would be too much for the pimps on Wall Street and poor Bitch is afraid his handlers won't give him some crumbs for his next election. You guys are becoming too disgustingly obvious.

Lastly you may have remembered that old song "Whitey's on the moon". Guess they'll need to change it to "Whitey's on Mars". Not against science but this is just bad timing. So tell me did they ever finish rebuilding New Orleans?

The Stupid Amendment

Of course its Friday and ya'll know what that means if you've hung around here very long.

But what about the heading you ask? Bart Stupak is calling it quits. The Michigan Democrat will not run for another term. In a statement released this afternoon he rambled on about all the wonderful things he did as a senator yet never really stated the reason for his leaving. But it didn't take very long to figure out what had happened. To put an amendment into the health care bill that didn't need to be there was his demise. In a great waste of taxpayer time and money Stupak held up the bill while a parade of speeches siding with his anti abortion stance were presented. Why the waste of effort you may ask? Because what he wanted was already a part of the bill so the amendment did nothing more than echo what was already there. But it was beginning to appear that Bart was siding with the republicans in both presenting an amendment that went against the party platform and holding up the bill from passage. Something even the republicans couldn't do at the time. For that he would face the greatest harassment from those in his district. The uproar must have been too much for old Bart as his wife was forced to disconnect their home phone. So I guess the senator saw the handwriting on the wall as far as his political career went.
But fear not Bart I'm sure you've made enough connections over the last 18 years and maybe they'll let you hang around C Street until your lease is up.

It's Friday already?

Three people killed at a refinery here. In reading the article I noticed that the company was based in Texas. That figures. Corporate policy from that state never was very safe. The Chemical Saftey Board had just finished a review of another accident down there in Texas when this happened. Can't remember but I think this is their second. There were 17 health and safety violations at this refinery at Antcortes, Wa. Now I've never actually worked up there but I have been in recertification classes with some of their guys. Safety used to be a big thing with them. In order to work there you had to go through a three days safety training program. Oh and let me say this. Labor and Industries gives companies plenty of opportunity to clean up their act. They usually come in and give warnings first time around. Second time it's a $1000 fine that can be appealed and it usually is. Third time the fine goes to $10,000 and after that it goes up ten fold $100K etc. I expect a couple of million dollar fine out of this one which we'll see with higher gas prices.
You'd think they'd get smart and update these refineries. There hasn't been a new one built in the last thirty years or so. All because nobody wants one in their back yard.

I'll get to the bank failures later because they don't get posted until then. Update: No bank failures posted this week.

Update: A total of five workers were killed with two more in critical condition. Doctor reports that the first 48 hours are the most important. If they can survive the first two days then their chances are good.
There was a few items of note in the comments about the costs of safety. Consider this: An L&I claim costs minimum of $1500 per person and that's just for all the paperwork involved. Then there's the medical costs and rehab. Add to that the increase in L&I premiums and that can be a good chunk of change for a company. An hour's worth of safety training can run $50 to $100 per person. So being safe really is cheaper. Most of the companies that I've worked for realize that.

Random rant - Surfing the web I see that our military is spending 168 million to develop a deadly laser capable of shooting down missiles. This beast called an FEL can put out enough energy to power a small city. How is it that we can spend billions er make that trillions of dollars killing people but god forbid if we spend a couple of billion bucks on health care?

Ever notice the modifying words in the headers of Google or Yahoo News. Nothing gets put at the head of the search engines like explosion, stabbed, murder, revolt, or any other scandal. Consider that if your writing some news item and want to get to the head of the pack.

Watching the hearings on financial reform this morning. You'd think our financial system was based on some form of quantum physics. It's real simple guys. You spent the last thirty years doing away with all the rules from the system. How about putting them back? Separate the banks and investment houses, outlaw derivatives and no more packaging subprime mortgages. Simple balance sheets might help as well. Profits, expenses and losses with no more of this off the books accounting. Wish I could do that. You think they'd buy it if I told the IRS my AGI was zero because I moved it to another account in my other name? I could just tell them I'm too small to succeed.

I could go on but that doesn't help anything.

Time for the Friday pussy

I was going to use one of Billy's pussy pics until I found this one. More fitting considering my last post. I'll be out next week for instruction but have no fear I'll be back when I have no class. :-)

Bank failures: Didn't check them this week but as this was a short week with the holiday I don't think there were any. If I get motivated I'll check into business failures. Saw an ad for commercial property auctions. No, not in the market for one just watching the melt down continue.

Friday beaver on hiatus

As we all know beavers go into hibernation about this time of year so while they're busy getting their dens ready I thought I'd post some pussies instead for your viewing pleasure. Fear not the beavers will be back in the spring.

The Friday beaver

A sad day for police beavers. A Seattle poilce officer was gunned down here last weekend. The memorial service was held today. As the service was ending police were surrounding the suspects apartment. He ran and was shot. That's about the fifth or sixth incident in the last week around the nation involving the military or police. And then the guy in Orlando who shot up his former place of work. As things implode it will get worse before it gets better. I just wonder when people will realize that you can only do so much and what's happening now is not their fault. Suck it up, hunker down and things will eventually turn around. Look at our friendly beaver up there. He's got nothing other than what he can get by on in nature and he does okay.
