This is about how I feel at present. Nothing happening around here. More classes in a week or two. Jeez I have so many certifications now I'll be spending half the time working and half the time doing recerts. I swear you need to be certified to wipe your butt in this state.

I am fully qualified in wiping my own butt thank you very much.
...mind you...isn't it awful when you use a public lavatory and the paper is crap and your finger goes....oh...perhaps we shouldn't go there...;-)
Demeur, certifications are what's known as a barrier to entry. Most of the time they make sure people in an occupation that has some safety angle know their stuff. For example, those ladies who use the most godawful collection of dangerous, highly toxic chemicals to fancify other ladies' finger and toenails have to show they know better than to let some of the chemicals spill into a customer's espresso.
Other times, I think certifications are just a way of limiting the number of people working in a field, so it won't be an employers' market for workers and so pay won't be surpressed.

Maybe in your trade but not in most of mine. There was always someone willing to hire me freelance as long as they could save some money while I fixed their equipment or built and remodeled things for them.
Hell, if I wanted some work all I would have to do is make a few phone calls, but I don't want any work.
For me, tech certifications are only a way to show that you can read a book and pass a test. I quit trying to impress people at interviews, either what I've done speaks for me, or I don't want to work for you.
Simple, and I save $100 per test, just to take the damn things.
