Friday Beaver - Late again. Better late than never

Republicans hate beavers

Republicans must think beavers are stupid. They blocked a bill in the House to make pay more equitable. In some states a beaver must undergo a medically unnecessary ultrasound before they can get an abortion. Add to this the recent cuts to food stamps most of which go to baby beaver kits as well as cuts to head start and it sure looks like a war on beavers. Then of course there's the voter ID laws enacted to to make it more difficult for beavers to vote.  And where is a beaver supposed to carry that ID? Don't answer that.

There's the push for more gas and oil that will pollute beaver dams and rivers. Oregon wants to sell of an entire forest to help pay for it's schools. What's a beaver to do when all the trees are clear cut and there's no jobs left? Sounds like a short term fix to a long term problem. But beavers aren't stupid. They manage to survive in spite of all the laws cast upon them. But just wait till the next election when these beavers get their say at the polls.

Isn't it wonderful how republicans tout family values while in the background fooling around with married beavers? And she was even on his staff. Then there was the republican governor "hiking the Appalachian trail". What was he doing drilling for oil with a south american beaver? Again don't answer that.

Of course the beavers could put an end to this nonsense by simply crossing their legs. That simple act has put and end to wars in the past if you know the history. Have to look up the specifics but in the mean time...

No bank fails this week.

Mountain Beaver

Not beaver mountain. For friday's Friday Beaver thought I'd try to one up Dana with an animal story of my own... Oh Hell who am I kidding I can't get anything on Dana. So here it is anyway.

Some years back I worked at Boeing doing some haz mat work for them as a contractor. We did chemical spills in the tunnels under the plant. On one particular night (my partner and I were nocturnal tunnel rats) we had finished cleaning up a small spill in the bowels of the building. It takes a bit to squeeze your body through the pipe filled tunnels. And I never figured out how my coworker an ex marine of 220lbs could fit through openings in pipes that I could barely fit through. I'm the guy they call on when nobody else will fit.
So we had finished my partner was taking a long extention cord to the van I was about fifty yards behind carrying a vac. As I got up to ground level and turned the corner I see my coworker flailing the extention cord around and whiping the ground. As I got closer I could see he was fighting off some angry critter. He tried backing away from it but it keep coming. By the time I got to him he had managed to drop kick it a couple of times and stunned it. I opened the lid of the vac and we shoveled it inside. Making sure the lid was shut tight we called their fire department to see what to do with it. The firemen borrowed a pair of leather gloves and we opened the container. He proceeded to nudge the beast a couple of times but no life there. He was nice enough to take the remains for further idenification, this of course after many jokes and jests to my coworker. The next day we got the word that he'd been attacked by one angry mountain beaver. The manager had to laugh and give him guff about being attacked by a beaver.

So watch out for those beavers they can be mean.

Friday beaver and a quick course in beaver language

Stumbled on an article on our butchering of the English language via BBC purists and wondered about beaver communications. This being Friday and all. Only once or twice have I heard a beaver make noise but that's another somewhat embarrassing story.

Turns out that beaver have several methods of getting the word out out there in the wild.

Beavers have a pair of anal scent glands, called castors, which secrete a musk-like substance called castoreum. This is used mainly for marking territories. The broad, flat, scaly tail is about 25 cm (about 10 in) long and serves as a warning signal when slapped against the water. Beavers also call out to others, making a low, groaning sound.

Okay I'll let you make your own jokes about all this.

Bank fails later. Oh pardon me that's failures.

addendum: How this code got all mucked up is beyond me but I'm too lazy to fix it right now so deal with it.

Friday Beaver - Trading beaver edition

Beaver hoping the traditional beaver skin top hats don't come back in fashion. Oops! Too late for this beaver.

TPP  NAFTA CAFTA and other stupid ideas

There was a time when TV sets were made in the U.S. Then NAFTA was signed. Slowly that business went first to Canada then to Mexico and finally to China seeking its' lowest labor costs. To date 62,000 manufacturers have left the country. Nothing was spared and nothing is safe. About the only thing left is airplanes and autos and we know autos took a hit with imports. Yes the auto industry came back but new workers now make about 1/2 what the old timers made. And forget pensions. So that raises the question. What happens when the Chinese learn to build our American planes? If you look at our GDP the bulk of it is dedicated to aircraft manufacturing. While aircraft machinists did make a handsome salary with plenty of perks, new workers see a smaller paycheck and a 401K instead of a pension.

With an all out assault on the middle class and the fact that 70 to 80% of our economy is consumer driven just where do the corporate suits think they'll find customers? They have this delusion that somehow they're the "job creators" when in fact they didn't create one single job. Jobs are created by demand and necessity. You don't start a business unless you know there's a demand for your product or service.

Now we have the TPP Trans Pacific Trade agreement. From what I've read of it it would strip countries of their sovereignty and give it to corporations. Even though your country might have banned a product or chemical a corporation could sue and not just to be permitted to sell the banned item but for future losses. Such was the case in Canada when Ethyl Corporation sued because Canada had banned a gasoline additive MMT. The company won and got $13 million for its' trouble even though EPA and Health Canada indicted that exposure could cause nerve damage.

Does it really make economic sense to ship a pound of beef from New Zealand half way around the world? And who exactly needs to eat watermelon in the wintertime in North America? Much of the problems could be resolved if they took the speculators out of the market. Their only function is to buy and sell contracts thereby driving up the price of a commodity. They have no vested interest in product itself. And now we have hedge funds betting on the rise or fall of a product. Vegas must be jealous.

Friday beaver - and this time it's a real beaver story

The reintroduction of beavers to the wild in Scotland for the first time in 400 years has been an "outstanding success", according to the team of ecologists that brought them back.    The  four pairs of beavers reintroduced in Knapdale five years ago have  produced 14 young, engineered 18-metre-long dams and lodges the size of  double garages and significantly boosted tourism      The trial, conducted by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the Scottish Wildlife Trust and Forestry Commission Scotland, released 16 Eurasian beavers (Castor fiber)  in four family groups between May 2009 and September 2010 into three  lochs in the Knapdale forest, west of Lochgilphead, in Argyll.    After a challenging start, the first beaver kit was born in 2010 and the latest count shows there are now 13 animals living around lochs Coille Bharr, Buic, Creagh Mhor and Linne.     http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/may/14/scotland-wild-beaver-reintroduced-knapdale

Was out cutting dead limbs from some trees and much to my surprise found an eagles nest at the top of one of them. Couldn't tell if it was still active but you never know. Also surprising was the fact that the tree wasn't that tall about 25 to 30 feet. Usually eagles like to make their nests much higher.

The obligatory Friday beaver

Seems beavers can get away with anything.

A large beaver broke into a liquor store in Ozersk, Russia last weekend and smashed several bottles of vodka before authorities could apprehend him. The beaver, who was thought to be fleeing nearby forest fires, was taken to a safe area and released.

Was looking for a photo of a broke beaver but I guess they do okay financially. Beavers have no health care, require no police or fire department and sure don't have a retirement plan to worry about. Not so for the rest of us as the clown circus continues in D.C. Oh what the hell it's not like it's their money anyway.

Bank fails later which might be interesting next Friday if there's a meltdown Tuesday.

Update: Six bank fails this week in various states. As I said above should the meltdown happen there may be too many bank fails to track. And these brats in congress think it's a game.

Friday beaver time

And this lucky beaver gets to paddle across his beaver pond having avoided the trappers cage.

It's lucky beaver time. Which fool will part with their hard earned bucks at a shot at 1/2 billion? Okay well after taxes it'll be half that much but I think I could have a good time. Actually you have better odds of getting hit by lightening and being eaten by both a black and a polar bear in the same day. Don't get me wrong I do play the odds but never for that reason. In fact I'd say I've beaten the odds more than once over the years. Just wonder who gets to take a dirt nap next. My friends are dropping like flies.

Not much in the news of late that hasn't bee hashed and rehashed. You know it's bad when articles like what to do with cumquats to lose weight start appearing in yahoo news. Don't forget to save your Canadian pennies folks they could be collectors' items. Now let me just pump $9.99 worth of gas and demand my penny when I give the clerk a ten spot. I'm like that ya know.

Too much to do and crappy weather. Somebody want to turn off the spigot? Oh well this is Western Washington after all. Can't remember when the last time I used an umbrella. That's what hats were made for. What kills me is seeing people in shorts with socks and sandals. What a fashion statement. And you see that all winter around here even when it snows.

Bank fails later if I think about it.

Baby Beaver for friday

I'm glad somebody is out there taking these beaver shots because I'm nowhere near any beaver dams.

And of course if you'd rather see some boobies my friend Py usually has some up on friday at

Darn late again with the friday beaver. Watching the runners and divers. Gee I remember when I could do that.

Beaver Friday in random direction

I started out with one concept for the post and strangely moved in a totally different direction. But as we stumble from one thing to another in our journey through cyberspace it's an easy trip.
The word of the day was feign and I had set my mind for a usual political dig on our adversaries but in searching for a fitting image stumbled upon a rather interesting writer / blog. Only had time to read a bit of her postings but bookmarked it for a later in depth read.

In looking for a shot of beaver for today's post came to the above photo tied to yet another momentarily interesting post. Right around our own forth of July celebrations Canada had their own celebration of Canada Day and tied to that idea and as everybody knows there are a lot of beavers in Canada came the beaver quiz. So without further ado and I'll say that I haven't even taken it myself for lack of time:

Canada Day Beaver Quiz

So while you're busy with the quiz I need to get ready for work. Running a bit late fiddling on the net here.

The Friday Beaver has been busy

Is it Friday already?

I don't know why they say busy as a beaver. Have you ever seen a beaver at work? Oops let me rephrase that. Have you ever seen a beaver actually building a dam? I've never even seen beavers in the wild as they must work the night shift doing the dirty deeds to trees at night when no one's around.

This week sure went by fast and much was done on my behalf but not for my own benefit other than a pay check.

Bank fails later.

Screaming Beaver Friday

In searching for our angry beaver here one will find an unusual number of rock groups, microbrews, and clubs by the same name so it was no easy task.

While perusing the news looking for my next inspirational post it all started to looking quite the same - wash rinse repeat. Then it struck me. As August drags on and the fireworks of July are a long memory. Who can remember Father's or Mother's or whatever inlaw or outlaw holiday has passed? This would be the perfect opportunity to institute another national day to tack onto the calendar. Because after all who can afford to take a two week vacation in this economy? You might find yourself replaced after getting a nice restful tan at the beach. So this is the perfect time of year to institute a new holiday. I know what you're thinking. Great! Now we have to fill our closets with yet another box of kitsch decorations to collect dust. Nope. This celebration should appeal to all ages, races, sexes, religions and national origins. It requires no decorations, party dress or strange eating habits.

Screaming Beaver Friday. Hadn't really thought of a name yet but Friday seems to be fitting and a screaming beaver has enough of a mystique that all sorts of rumors and misconceptions as to it's origins are sure to make for an interesting web search as years pass. After all who the hell knows any real facts about the Mummers.
But the idea is quit simple. At say noon or one o'clock on the chosen day everyone goes to the front door, steps out and yells at the top of their lungs their most seething low down underlying subconscious hatred. No holds barred. Doesn't matter if it's a boss or spouse or neighbor. Whatever hate may be on your mind at the time let her rip. Bang a pan if you like. Clench a fist. Gnash your teeth. Scream as loud as you like. Use as much profanity as you wish. Jump up and down. Shake your fists. And after about a minute but no more than five all are to remain silent for a minute.

Now don't your feel so much better? And it didn't cost a thing. Well maybe a brain aneurism.

Friday Beaver? You get what you pay for cheapskate

Friday already? Okay this isn't a beaver. You try looking for a photo of a beaver and a mirror and don't even think of trying it with safe mode off.

Mirror mirror on the wall who got blown up stabbed or shot today? No you aren't the prettiest puss in the land. Have you looked in the mirror lately? Just more bad news boys. Keep working and work harder because the end isn't anywhere in sight. Just when you thought you'd make ends meet they moved the ends. Knew I shouldn't have burned that candle at both ends. Life is what you do while you're waiting to die...Bob Dylan. No more Capt. Kangaroo for you. How poetic must have smoked the same stuff as that Graves fellow but nobody's seen him in a coon's age so... on with the show Buggs.

What stupid distraction pops up in the mirror today? Another Al Bundy and his hoards of idiots gracing our screens? Guess they ran out of has beens to trip the light fantastic. Come on guys Fred Astaire is long gone. Ah that's right be afraid, be very afraid cause little Billy might have left his backpack when he took a pee at the airport. Blow it up first and ask questions later.

When in doubt regurgitate the news cause you never know who didn't see it the first three hundred times.  Miscellaneous of the Miss Cellaneous engineering hungrier fish? Why not just do your GMO magic and have them grow legs then they can walk into your frying pan... sheesh.

Beware of the "Vortex"! That's the latest catch word be it snow rain and now pollen? This could present golden opportunities hum... When in doubt just add a 'vortex' to the beginning and you'll be a hit at the party. But as far as the news is concerned it's a vortex of lies. Headline reads "US. Manufactures gaining competitiveness". Of course they are everything is made in China now. Russia gets it's credit rating cut. Who cares? Do you care? The Russians don't care. Why? Because it's all come down to who can slap the other guy with the most debt and you know we're experts at that. International Monetary Farce and all that. Oops that'd be Federal Reserve for us which is no more federal than your aunt Mabel. Again slap an important sounding monicker at the beginning or the end and you can fool anybody. And now for the grand euphemistic ending, let's see...

Financial institution readjustments at a differed time.... How's that?

Saturday Night Beaver

The Friday night beaver got pushed to Saturday this week. I guess he couldn't find a date last night and his threads were at the cleaners. Speaking of beavers it seems they were busy up here in the Northwest in early spring. One of their dams let loose and a bunch of houses were wiped out in a mud slide. Wonder if the owners will sue the state or the beavers? Unless the beavers won the state lottery it looks like that would be the state. You can't beat mother nature, she always wins.

We interupt the usual friday beaver post with the following photo post. To the honor of fellow blogger Pygalgia who posts boobie photos on friday (silly hobby we have here). The regular Friday beaver will return next week. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.

The usual Friday beaver

In keeping with the friday beaver theme it occurred to me that the reason so many on the right are angry and ranting wild machinations is that they are sexually frustrated. It all makes perfect sense if you look at it closely. No sex outside of marriage,no sex before marriage, no self sex, and just how many head aches can a women have? They might as well live in a monastery except that we know that behind closed doors it's another story. With a nice expense account or corporate buddies with jets what's to stop a fellow from a jaunt to South America? Too far to go you say? How's about a nice intern or sexy campaign worker will do in a fix. Oh but why stop there when there are far more kinky things to delve into? A night out at a lesbian bondage club with the boys won't hurt anybody but don't forget to finish your speech on family values for the Rotary Club breakfast tomorrow.

So for all the flustered uptight boys from the "No Party" this wet beaver is for you. You just keep your hands where we can see em.

Update: Almost forgot bank fails 6 more this week 3 in GA 1 each in NJ,OH,and WI.

Nasty Friday beaver

Beavers are not always the kindest of creatures as Billy will tell you but that a different story. If you think this critter is nasty you should catch the rascal in the video below (hope it works as I don't even see the code). It's one nasty beaver. Sorry to report that the guy taking this video was actually killed by this beaver when it attacked him biting into a main artery in his leg and he bled to death. Those with him could not stop the bleeding. Let this be a lesson. Wild animals are just that wild and not fond of the paparazzi.

In other news Exxon continues to lie it's way around the Mayflower,Arkansas tar sands spill telling everybody things are just ginger peachy, nothing to see here. Latest reports from the state health department are that there should be no acute health effects from the spill because people were evacuated quickly and reports from Exxon are that the spill is 95% complete. If you believe that little yarn I've got a bridge to sell you real cheap. I once did a diesel spill of just 50 gallons that took us three weeks to clean up because it had seeped into the soil. Due to it's location on an embankment we had to dig contaminated dirt by hand to a depth of three feet. So don't try and tell me this spill has been cleaned up. Every picture I've seen thus far indicates to me that they have no clue as to how to clean up this spill. I've seen workers with no protective gear, booms placed incorrectly and worst of all the pumping of oil and water from a wetland right into a lake. That ain't the way I was taught. You will note in this photo the bug sprayer and the cans of what appear to be gasoline. It's not for spraying for insects. The sprayer and cans are filled with diesel to cut the oil in order to clean it off their boots. This area by the way is called the contamination reduction zone or decon to us in the biz. Those green boots he's wearing are acid resistant, at least he got that right. Funny too is how no one there is wearing a respirator which is the very last thing you remove when leaving that zone.

Bank fails later and maybe film at 11.

Beaver Friday - Not so lucky

This is my lucky beaver skin hat (not really) Lucky for me, not so much for the beaver.

Don't know why they call it "good friday" when some guy got nailed to a cross, but what do I know . You have people worshiping a rock in the middle of the desert.  Hey guys it's a meteor if you didn't know. But all in the reality of superstition we do things that make no logical sense. Spock is laughing his butt off in another dimension. So don't forget your magic underwear and ladies cover you heads for cripes sake. Hum that reminds me of a little happening some years back goes something like this:

Was doing some work at some apartments and at the request of one of the tenants was asked to check on a broken appliance. Went to the door and a very attractive young middle eastern gal answered wearing a tight tank top and tight stretch pants that left little to the imagination, if you know what I mean. She quickly explained the problem but nervously ran to the back room only to come back with a hajib on her head still displaying the rest of her body in her tight clothes.

What crazy little boxes we create for ourselves. In India I hear it's against the law to show a couple kissing in a movie. That might explain why the country has the highest rape figures. Sexually frustrated men and treating women like an object to be hidden behind a vail doesn't make for a healthy situation. But it all goes back to superstitions. Who ever though of throwing a virgin into a volcano to appease some fire god must have been smokin some heavy stuff and yet here we are some thousand plus years later doing much the same. Face it that lucky bowling shirt is just a shirt and your team isn't going to come from behind just because you turned your baseball cap inside out. It looks stupid by the way.

Take a step back and look at your own superstitions. Do they really make any sense? I might not walk under a ladder not because it's bad luck but because I know the idiot stupidly standing on the top rung up there might just drop something on my head.

The late Friday beaver

The Friday beaver was held up this week because his trip on the internet was delayed. Seems there was an electrical fire at a bank of servers at Fisher Plaza. That small fire knocked out internet service to a bunch of companies that use those servers. Even knocking out the TV station KOMO channel 4. They are now operating from remote trucks until full power is restored. There's 60 electricians and engineers working on the problem. Wow think of the overtime and on a holiday too.

Lucky beavers don't have to worry about such things as computers or lighting or even taxes. And speaking of taxes that was the reason for the holiday we now celebrate. From what I've read of history the annual taxes on the colonies amounted to twenty five cents per person. It wasn't so much the tax that got people riled up as the fact that they didn't have representation.
I had hoped to find a revolutionary war beaver for this post but they must be tied up and harder to find than Michael Jackson tickets. Oops I promised the beavers I wouldn't mention him again, sorry guys.
