About how I feel this morning

After two years on the bench I finally went into the game last night. There's something to be said for high pain tolerence. Jackhammering concrete in an elevator shaft a little bit bigger than a closet has kicked my... well you get the picture. The clowns on the other side of the aisle think that people who do construction type work can keep doing it until their in their 70s? Ain't going to happen. There was a time just a few years ago when I could run circles around kids in their 20s (the gameboy generation). Not anymore. I need to find something a bit less physical.

Feeling a little run down, so to speak?

It would be quite comical to see the George Wills, David Brooksies and their ill ilk get sick from such work.

Good grief, man. I hope you had really good ear protectors, and not the little canal type but ones that covered your ears completely.

Re: 65- to 70-year-olds doing construction work. Physically, even if still strong, a good many will be prone to fractures and painful joint problems simply because of the hardening and calcification effects that go with age.

You're right about pushing the retiement age to 70 in any kind of work, though. Most employers seem to be looking to early-retire people in their late 50s whenever possible. I don't know where the geniuses behind the idea think the jobs are going to come from.

BF I didn't even get the license number of the truck.

Grave I'd like to see Boner get off his tanning bed long enough to try doing one of those jobs.

SW What'd you say? Most of those my age and older were already retired early. When I first went in for unemployment everybody in the room was over 50.

I did some of that kind of work just after getting out of the Navy about 200 years ago, in a smelter.

One day it was jackhammering in a restricted place, the next day cleaning out a huge acid vat, the next day cleaning a blast furnace with only enough clearance to craw in on your hands and knees.

I quit in less than two weeks.

Nothing fun about Jack Hammering. Electric or air driven. It was always a negative experience, even when I did it 30 years ago on occaision. I can sure relate. But as they say - those who are glad it is not them - Better you than me - ;)

You know I like you dude.. I'm 58 years old and can barely walk due to the work I did over the years. I know you have to do what you have to..
You don't want to end up like me.
Golden years my ass.
My son who just graduated with a BFA is working at starbucks for 8.50 an hour. Almost 80,000 spent on education and this is where he has to go. Things have got to change.

All these politicians and demagogues who want to keep pushing the retirement age to 70 or older -- I'll not one of those people ever lifted anything heavier than a briefcase. They'd call 911 if they got a paper cut.

Crap, our little heat wave is over already, but I loved every minute of it.
