Friday pussy and she's mad

I had been following this story for some years now and thought it had been resolved. In the 50s and 60s R.W. Grace mined vermiculite in Libby, Montana. It was used in everything from attic insulation to a garden soil enhancer. That is until it was found to contain levels of asbestos. As the people of Libby started dying from lung disease somebody tested and found the cause. This started one of the longest law suits to date and is one of the many reasons I hate republicans. I'll explain. Libby was about to be listed as a Superfund site meaning they could get a large settlement to clean up the town and all the homes contaminated with asbestos. That was until George W. Bush stepped in and signed an executive order stating that there was no danger to the population in Libby and the dying people would get nothing. It wasn't until last year that Libby was listed back on the Superfund site list. Superfund by the way was allowed to run out of money under George W. Woudn't want to inconvience business with paying for the toxic messes they leave behind now would we?

So now scientists are trying to track down people who lived in Libby during the 50s, 60s up to 1999 then moved away to see what health effects they're now suffering. Nothing like being a guinea pig to corporate america.

Lab rats

Friday Bank Failures: Three more this week MS IL and MN. And to add insult to injury the market dove below 10,000.

Yeah, well I grew up in a lead/silver mining town where the river ran gray and it (tic) had (tic) no (tic) effect on me. :-)

Guess I just got lucky because there was a lot of stupid people in that town. Of course we lived in the next town over and was out of the way of the smoke stacks and such.

Libby is a pretty little town. The thing is, back in those days we knew little about such things, we just knew that we had jobs.

I'm going camping for a few days, the rest of you monkeys are in charge while I'm gone.

We tend to think it doesn't matter who's elected because what the hell their all crooked. Let's just take Regan, his effects are still felt today and will be until bankruptcy is declared.

W.R. Grace knew for years how dangerous vermiculite was. They deliberately kept the info from workers, failed to provide protective masks, clothing, showers, etc. Internal company memos came to light making that clear.

Workers got sick and died. So did their family members, because they went years carrying the stuff home on their clothes, shoes, in their hair, etc.

There isn't a pit in hell deep enough and hot enough for people who would do such things to make themselves richer. Same goes for pols like George W. Bush.

Dumbya is the gift that keeps on giving. Sleazy corporations and an amoral president who enables them -- great combination.

Love that picture but the below picture is a real bummer. You know, the damage to the country and the world just keeps coming. I thought ermiculite was still used, what is the white stuff in prepared plants you see sometime?

Billy they've known since ancient times that asbestos was dangerous. They recorded the death of slaves from lung disease.

Tim Billy gave up on women just ask him about t.i.c.s. and you'll get an earful.

SW the only thing good was that the CEO died from the asbestos exposure.

Tom nothing will change just the players.

Jim that would be perlite which is different.
